Growing up, I never knew what GORP meant. I just knew it was good. As an adult I learned from my sister that it meant “Good Old Raisins and Peanuts”. Which – made me laugh because for us, it was never just that, we had always added more. I believe that GORP should be all the goodies whoever is making it would want in a Trail Mix. Make it yours! Make it easy for yourself and buy the Granola if you don’t have time to make your own. Over the years we have taken this on may trips and it is Always worth the effort. Everyone Loves GORP!
For those of you who bought the GORP at CJ’s Kitchen – here is what was in it.
GORP
Vanilla, Cashew Cranberry Granola – recipe below
Sunflower Nuts
Toasted Almond Slices
Peanuts
Cashews
Toasted Coconut Chips – can be found at natural food stores like Tochi Products
Dried Pineapple – cut in small pieces
Dried Cranberries (Craisins)
Dates – cut in small pieces
Dried Blueberries
Raisins – and / or Yogurt Covered Raisins
Plain M & M’s
Peanut M & M’s
Dried Banana Chips
Vanilla Cashew Cranberry Granola
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2/3 cup honey
1 1/2 T Vanilla
4 cups Old Fashioned Oats
1/4 cup dry coffee creamer (powder)
1 cup Coconut Chips, toasted
1/4 cup Sunflower Nuts
1 cup Cashews
1 cup Dried Cranberries (Craisins)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Line a large roasting pan with foil. Spray the foil with a cooking spray then pour all the dry ingredients (except the cranberries) in the pan and blend well.
Warm the honey and oil in the microwave, then add the vanilla and blend. Pour this over the dry ingredients and stir to coat.
Bake the Granola for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. The granola should just be turning golden brown.
Cool stirring every once in a while, then add the cranberries.
